The College of William and Mary and Regent University each have law schools. The College of William & Mary also operates the Virginia Institute of Marine Science. Also in the region, the Hampton Roads College of Medicine/Eastern Virginia Medical School hosts the internationally acclaimed Jones Institute, known for its work in in-vitro fertilization.

There are two community colleges serving the Newport News region, Thomas Nelson Community College and Tidewater Community College.
