TO INVEST MORE THAN $600 MILLION AT ITS NEWPORT NEWS PLANT- Virginia Governor Tim Kaine and Tsuneji Uchida, President and Chief Operating Officer of Canon Inc. announced the investment by Canon of more than $600 million and the creation of more than 1,000 new jobs at a new 700,000 square foot manufacturing facility on the Newport News campus of Canon Virginia. Construction on the new facility, which will perform highly-roboticized production of toner cartridges for Canon, begins immediately. The project will also include an expansion of Canon Virginia’s aftermarket service of Canon digital consumer products, an advanced manufacturing research and development component, and the establishment of Canon’s Market Engineering Technical Center, which will provide training services for Canon’s operations in the Americas.
