The Newport News Department of Parks and Recreation manages a full slate of team sports for youth and adults. Youth sports leagues include baseball, little league, softball, basketball, cheerleading, field hockey, football and soccer. An annual baseball camp is operated at Deer Park in the summer. Adult sports leagues include basketball, field hockey, softball, soccer, rugby and volleyball.
In addition to those programs operated by Parks and Recreation, a private soccer league and swim team leagues are active in Newport News. Organized school sports at the intramural and varsity levels include baseball, basketball, football, golf, swimming, tennis, track and wrestling.
In addition to gymnasiums at every school and school baseball diamonds and soccer fields, the Department of Parks and Recreation operates a variety of sports facilities. These include the Huntington Park and Achievable Dream tennis centers, Newport News Golf Club at Deer Run, Dorris Miller Community Center, Riverview Gymnastics Center and Midtown Community Center. Soccer fields are located on land adjacent to Riverside Hospital and at Riverview Farm Park. Todd Stadium provides a venue for high school football games and other activities.
