NAUTICAL MUSEUMS

Newport News residents can visit two world-class nautical museums. But don’t try this in one day. The Mariners Museum in Newport News is perhaps the world’s finest nautical collection. Besides its permanent exhibits, the museum regularly assembles special shows, such as "Pirates" or "Titanic." The museum is being expanded to house a permanent exhibit featuring artifacts from and a full-scale replica of the resurrected Civil War vessel, Monitor. Nauticus, in Downtown Norfolk, features the U.S. Navy in its exhibits. A major attraction to visitors of Nauticus is the restored battleship, Wisconsin.
