FESTIVALS AND FAIRS IN HAMPTON ROADS

In a metropolitan area with nine cities there is always an event worth attending. The region’s full calendar of indoor and outdoor concerts, theater, art shows, children’s entertainment, lectures and performances is punctuated by a series of major annual festivities. These include the Fall Folk Art Festival held in October in Newport News Park and the Celebration in Lights—a drive-through Holiday Season adventure that begins in Newport News Park right after Thanksgiving. The festivity season begins in earnest in May with the Virginia Arts Festival. This is a month-long, multiple venue celebration featuring ballet, opera, symphony, chamber music, theater, jazz, magic marching bands and other performances. In June, Harborfest occurs along Norfolk’s Downtown waterfront. Harborfest frequently features the Parade of Tall Ships. In early September, revelers can attend the Hampton Bay Days and, later in the month, they can visit the Virginia Beach boardwalk for the annual Neptune Festival.
